Uruguay v Argentina friendly could feature four Flamengo players – OneFootball

Uruguay and Argentina will meet on Friday 13 November in a friendly that could feature up to four Flamengo players. As of Saturday 17, neither national team has released its squad.

The Argentine FA announced the match on Friday 16, and the Uruguayan FA later confirmed it. La diaria reported the stadium and kick-off are still to be decided, with the game in Buenos Aires but not at the Monumental.

Local coverage points to La Bombonera as the leading candidate venue, with the La Plata stadium an alternative. Four days later, Argentina host Costa Rica in Córdoba.

For Argentina, goalkeeper Agustín Rossi and forward Joaquín Freitas are options for Lionel Scaloni. For Uruguay, full-back Guillermo Varela and midfielder Nicolás De La Cruz are in contention under interim coach Diego Forlán.

Rossi has one senior call-up from 2021 World Cup qualifiers and did not play. Freitas debuted with a late cameo in June’s 2-0 win over Honduras, then missed September selection.

Forlán has been interim since August after Marcelo Bielsa left. Varela featured in his first squad for friendlies against Japan, South Korea and India, and missed a Brasileirão match with Santos during that period.

Arrascaeta fractured his left wrist in the 4-1 win over South Korea and had surgery on 1 October. Doctor Fernando Sassaki put recovery at six to eight weeks, overlapping the 9 to 17 November window.

Before the break, Flamengo host Grêmio on 4 November, then face Athletico-PR on 18 November. The scheduling reduces the domestic impact of call-ups, though Uruguay are seeking a second friendly.
