Lionel Messi will wear a special light-blue and gold kit in his final international game for Argentina against Benin on October 6 at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires.
Messi announced his international retirement in August shortly after leading Argentina to the World Cup final, where it lost to Spain 1-0.
“One last match….A jersey for a lifetime,” Messi said in a post on Instagram, while revealing the jersey.
The 39-year-old will walk away from the national team as one of its most decorated players, having scored 125 goals, including 21 at the World Cup.
Messi’s list of international accolades with the Albiceleste is second to none, which includes a World Cup trophy, two Copa America titles and an Olympic Gold medal.
From first observations, the jersey contains a number of elements that symbolise Messi’s career in different ways. It moves away from the traditional white-and-blue stripes, featuring gold lettering, a large, shaded Sun of May taking up most of the space on the back, and sleek black-and-gold detailing along the sleeve edges.
