ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Argentina, the defending men’s FIFA World Cup champions, arrived in Atlanta on Sunday night ahead of their match at Atlanta Stadium.
The team, which includes soccer superstar Lionel Messi, takes on Egypt in their upcoming match on Tuesday.
“I’ve been watching him since I’ve been like five years old,” fan Andres Geribon said. “That’s been a dream just to at least see him, at least yell his name and say, ‘Hey Messi, how are you; I love you.”
The Geribon family waited for hours on the sidewalk outside of the terminal to catch a glimpse of the Argentine team.
“My parents used to take me when I was there when they won the cup with Maradona,” Andrea Geribon said. “I’ve always loved them; they’re the best. What can I say.”
The Egyptian national soccer team arrived in Atlanta on Saturday ahead of a FIFA World Cup round of 16 matchup against Argentina, with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line.
