Argentina auto exports to Brazil slip 2.2% despite strong pickup demand – DatamarNews

Brazil remains the main destination for Argentina’s automotive industry, accounting for 64.3% of total vehicle exports, but shipments to the Brazilian market have lost some ground in 2026.

Argentina exported 112,379 vehicles to Brazil in the first eight months of the year, down 2.2% from the 114,906 units shipped during the same period in 2025.

The decline comes as Argentina’s automotive industry tries to balance weaker domestic production with foreign sales. Vehicle production remains 17% below last year’s level in the year to date, while exports have posted monthly growth three times in the first eight months.

As a result, total automotive exports between January and August were just 0.9% above the same period last year.

August was the first month of 2026 in which both production and exports increased from the previous month, July, although both indicators remained well below their year-earlier levels.

Pickups dominate shipments to Brazil

Argentina exports passenger cars, SUVs and pickups to Brazil, but pickup trucks represent the largest share. In August, they accounted for 72.5% of Argentine automotive sales to the Brazilian market.

Two Argentine-made models also lead Brazil’s midsize pickup segment, even though the broader Brazilian pickup market is dominated by compact half-ton models.

Despite the decline in Argentina auto exports to Brazil so far this year, the Brazilian market remains central to Argentina’s automotive industry, particularly for locally produced pickup trucks.
