CBS News reports that Chilean police arrested three Chilean men for allegedly robbing the homes of professional athletes like Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and others in 2024 and 2025. The three suspects are Ignacio Zuniga Cartes, Bastian Jimenez Freraut, and Pablo Zuniga Cartes.
These men are wanted by the FBI. And two of those have also robbed in Argentina.
Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce’s home burglaries reach breakthrough in Argentina
ABC News’ Meredith Deliso and Aicha El Hammar Castano report —Two suspects – Ignacio Zuniga Cartes and Bastian Jimenez Freraut – were involved with a home burglary of Argentine tennis player Juan Martin del Potro that took place early May 2026. The arrest of these two led to the arrest of the third suspect. The Argentinian authorities say the third suspect – Pablo Zuniga Cartes – is not related to the tennis player’s home burglary. These men were arrested in a joint operation between the FBI and the Chilean police. The suspects are currently in Chile and awaiting extradition to the United States. These three suspects are part of a South American group that targets the homes of professional athletes in the United States.KCTV5’s Greg Daily reports the suspects have stolen millions of dollars in valuable items, including jewelry, high-end watches, cash, souvenirs, and other sports gear.
Patrick Mahomes’ Lock Llyod home was burglarized on October 5, 2024, and Travis Kelce’s Lenexa home was burglarized two days later, on October 7, 2024. Other players who also had home burglaries were the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Mike Conley Jr., Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis, and NHL’s Dallas Stars forward and alternate captain Tyler Seguin.
One suspect plead guilty to transportation of stolen property
ESPN’s Michael Rothstein reported in early March 2026 that Alexander Esteban Huaiquil-Chavez pleaded guilty to interstate transportation of stolen property in a federal court —In relation to the 2024 string of burglaries at high-profile athletes’ homes, including Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Joe Burrow. Alexander Esteban Huaiquil-Chavez will be sentenced on June 11. As part of the plea agreement, both sides agreed to serve two years in prison.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers player’s home burglarized when he played against Baltimore Ravens
Heavy Sports’ Nathan Dougherty reports there was another NFL player involved. A Tampa Bay Buccaneers player. According to a complaint from the U.S. Department of Justice, the group targeted players while they were playing or traveling. And that they’ve stolen more than $2 million in valuables altogether. The burglaries happened between October 2024 and December 2024. Right when the players were busy playing professional games. On Oct. 5 and Oct. 7, 2024, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce’s homes were burglarized. Stolen items included jewelry, watches, cash, and other luxury merchandise. The total value of the stolen property at both their homes exceeded $5000. On Oct. 7, 2024, the Kansas City Chiefs played against the New Orleans Saints at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.On October 21, 2024, a Tampa Bay Buccaneers player’s home was burglarized in Tampa. The player was playing for the Baltimore Ravens at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. They stole “multiple pieces of expensive jewelry, Rolex watches, a Louis Vuitton suitcase, and a firearm. The total value of the stolen property was approximately $167,000.”
