Three Argentina players have been banned for their part in a brawl at the end of last month’s World Cup final against Spain, and the county has been fined for displaying a Falkland Islands banner after their semi-final win over England.
Leandro Paredes received a 10-match ban and a $90,000 (€70,000) fine by Fifa’s disciplinary committee, while Nahuel Molina was given a seven-match suspension and the same fine.
Thiago Almada received a one-match ban and a $30,000 (€25,700) fine, while a member of Argentina’s coaching staff, Roberto Ayala, was banned for three matches and also fined $30,000.
For Spain, Gavi was hit with a one-match ban and a $30,000 fine.

The Argentinian Football Association (AFA) was fined $321,000 (€275,000) concerning a banner displayed after the game against England, which read: “Las Malvinas son Argentinas” (the Falkland Islands are Argentinian). The fine also covered breaches of Fifa’s anti-discrimination regulations by Argentina’s supporters at other World Cup matches.
For the discrimination offences, the AFA has been ordered to play the country’s next home match at 50-per-cent capacity, with a 50-per-cent capacity restriction at a further match suspended. Fifa said $100,000 (€85,600) of the fine was also suspended.
