In a move to reignite Argentina’s presence on the international motorsport stage, Argentine President Javier Milei announced plans to bring Formula 1 back to the country. The initiative would mark Argentina’s return to hosting the prestigious race, not held since 1998.
President Milei revealed his strategy during a radio interview, stating he plans to attend the International Automobile Federation’s Americas Congress, scheduled between August 31 and September 2 in the capital. The Automovil Club Argentino will host the Congress, marking a significant step in Argentina’s motorsport revival.
Renovations at Buenos Aires’ Oscar and Juan Galvez Autodrome aim to achieve Grade 1 circuit status, essential for hosting such races. The venue, set to host a MotoGP in 2027, is hastening its upgrades, with hopes of securing an FIA Grade 1 license to welcome Formula 1 again in the upcoming seasons.
