Lighting rig collapses on crowd during Max Dean set in Argentina, injuring 15 – Mixmag

Around 15 people were injured last weekend after a lighting rig fell into the crowd at an Argentinian nightclub where British DJ Max Dean was performing.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 5:AM on Sunday (March 1) at Archi Club in Buenos Aires where around 700 people were in attendance, per Need To Know

As seen in videos circulating online, a large lighting truss collapsed in the VIP area of the open-air club behind the DJ booth, hitting attendees from overhead and causing some to fall to the floor.

Max Dean, who was performing at the time, had his back to the area where the rig fell, unable to see the incident, and continued performing. The venue was reportedly evacuated shortly after.

According to NTK, 15 people were injured, six of whom were hospitalised as dozens of ambulances, firefighters and police attended the scene. Two women also made their own way to a local hospital.

Those injured were aged between 25 and 49, two of whom reportedly suffered traumatic brain injuries. Everyone who was injured has since been discharged from hospital.

In a statement to Mixmag, Max Dean said: “I’m deeply saddened to learn that some people were injured following the stage collapse at the event in Argentina. I was not made aware of the situation immediately as it took place behind me.”

“As soon as I was [made aware], the music was turned off and the venue was evacuated. My thoughts are with everyone affected. I sincerely hope those who were hurt make a full and speedy recovery. The safety of fans, crew, and everyone involved is always the top priority, and I am staying closely informed as more details become clear.”

Archi Club has yet to release a statement regarding the incident, though the club has reportedly been shuttered for investigation.

NTK reports that the venue has a maximum capacity of 500, and note that local media have alleged that the lighting rig was installed just hours before the event was due to go ahead.

Mixmag has reached out to Archi Club for a statement.
