The first Austrian Alpine Ski Teams have already arrived in Chile and Argentina and begun their training on snow. More training groups will follow in the next two weeks. Before training can begin in the Andes, a major logistical operation is underway behind the scenes.
This year, the total task is to transport around 17 tons of equipment from the various World Cup and European Cup teams safely and on schedule to the training bases in South America.
For this demanding task, the Austrian Ski Federation (ÖSV) has relied on the expertise and support of the German Ski Association (DSV, formerly DB Schenker) for several years. From skis and service equipment to comprehensive training gear: to ensure the teams can work under optimal conditions on site, all equipment must arrive at the right place at the right time.
Logistical challenge across two continents
A total of ten World Cup and European Cup teams will complete their on-snow training in the Andes until the end of September. The training groups are spread across several locations in Chile and Argentina – including La Parva, El Colorado, Valle Nevado, Portillo and Ushuaia.
Christian Mitter, Alpine Skiing Sports Director, emphasizes the importance of efficient logistics: “Every overseas training camp involves an enormous logistical effort. Such a feat would not be possible without strong partners. Therefore, we extend our special thanks to DSV, which has supported us as a reliable logistics partner for many years, ensuring that our equipment arrives safely and on time at the training locations. Only with this infrastructure can we offer our athletes optimal conditions for a successful World Cup winter.”
Excellent conditions in Chile and Argentina
From a sporting perspective, the conditions for the overseas training camps are also very promising. Following heavy snowfall in recent weeks, the training areas in Chile and Argentina are currently in excellent condition.
“Overseas training camps are an indispensable part of our preseason preparation. Following the recent snowfall, our teams in Chile and Argentina are currently enjoying excellent training conditions. This allows us to implement the planned sessions at the highest level and simultaneously conduct valuable equipment tests under race conditions,” said Mitter.
Until the end of September, the various World Cup and European Cup groups will complete their training blocks in South America, before the final preparation for the upcoming World Championship season continues on the local glaciers.
