COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Argentina, the reigning World Cup champions, will square off against Honduras in a match that is part of the “Road to 26” series, weeks before the FIFA World Cup kicks off across the U.S., Mexico and Canada. Fans can also register for exclusive pre-sale access.
Tickets go on sale Wednesday at 9 a.m. for the World Cup warm-up match between the two squads at Kyle Field on June 6, 2026.
Local tourism officials say the event could generate a $10 million economic impact for the area. Jeremiah Cook with Visit College Station said the final number could be even larger.
“That is unheard of, right? I mean, we could bring how many sports tournaments a year, how many conventions a year, to get to just that 10 million number. But yet one event at Kyle Field is absolutely massive. And the $10 million is really on the minimum side. That’s kind of like a half-full stadium,” said Cook, assistant director of tourism for the City of College Station.
He noted that the match is expected to draw more than 85,000 fans to the area.
It will be the second time Kyle Field has hosted an international soccer match. The stadium hosted a friendly match between Mexico’s and Brazil’s men’s national soccer teams in 2024.
Planning and partnership
Cook said conversations with Texas A&M began right after the last international soccer match at Kyle Field in 2024. The planning for this event started almost two years ago, with more focused discussions happening since the new year.

This go-around, the City of College Station invested financially in bringing the event to Kyle Field. Cook said the dollar amount is still being ironed out.
“When you look at these types of events, the elephant in the room is Texas A&M needs to make money for this event,” Cook said. “And in the new world of college athletics, that’s more important than ever.”
Cook said the city stepped in to close any financial gaps to help bring the event to College Station. Plus, a former student named Fernando, who has ties to international soccer, is taking the lead from the outside, Cook said.
Cook added that departments across the city, from public works to police and fire, all click into action together.
“When football comes in the fall, we press ‘X’ button. And you do this, you do this, we do this, and we all work together. So that’s the beauty of this community is that we really, really know how to do large events well because we bring 100,000 people in seven times a year,” Cook said.

Cook credited Texas A&M Athletics for getting city and community partners to the table earlier this time.
“I think that all credits to Texas A&M that they have brought more people to the table for this conversation, and earlier on, from the beginning, we were, some of our hotel partners, us, others in the community, were at the table to help try to bring this to fruition,” Cook said.
Argentina vs. Honduras is set for 7 p.m. at Kyle Field on June 6, 2026.
A USA Track and Field event will also take place in College Station on June 6. The made-for-TV event at E.B. Cushing Stadium is expected to draw around 4,000 people and will feature nationally recognizable track and field athletes.
