KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Argentina fans gathered at the Origin Hotel, chanting and singing as the World Cup team arrived in Kansas City.
The fans who attended moved to Kansas City from Argentina. When they heard the reigning World Cup champions would be based in the city, they said they couldn’t stay home.
“To be an Argentinian means that you will never be alone. Wherever you go, there’s always an Argentinian there,” said Sebastian, an Argentina native who lives in Kansas City.
The team landed at Kansas City International Airport Sunday morning after an 11-hour flight covering more than 5,500 miles. Their specially designed jet featured jersey-inspired designs and Messi’s number 10 on the tail.
“We feel represented with all the effort they make. Each one has their story. We feel really identified and for them to be here, it’s a dream,” said Adriana Smith, who moved to Kansas City from Argentina.
Security at the hotel included Sugar Creek and Independence police departments.
“Everyone who comes here wants to stay here. We love Kansas City. The Argentinians, we have a really good time here,” Sebastian said.
“I found this group of people here in KC. We all live here. So it’s really important for us to have the team here,” he said.
